Tracee Ellis Ross is the first Black woman to win the Golden Globe award for Best Actress in Comedy in 34 years. Debbie Allen was the last Black woman to win this award in 1983. Congratulations Tracee!
This is for all women, women of colour, and colourful people, whose stories, ideas, & thoughts are not always considered worthy & valid & important. But I want you to know that I see you. We see you”
Tracee Ellis Ross
Hopefully this win will set a new precedent for award shows. Black actors and actresses deserve to be nominated in the major categories because they’re more worthy of that seat at the table. Black actors and actress tend to only sweep the Best Supporting actor and actress categories and I am hopeful that Hollywood will turn a new leaf. Inclusion and fairness in the upcoming months, please.
