Let’s talk about the significance of Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas winning gold medals in Rio.

There has only been three Black women to make the artistic gymnastic Olympic team. Ever. All three women brought home gold medals. In 1996, in Atlanta Georgia, Dominique Dawes became the first Black person(Woman or man) to win an Olympic Gold medal in artistic gymnastics. In 2012, in London, Gabby Douglas became the first Black woman to win the individual all-around Gold medal and the second Black woman to win an Olympic team all-around Gold medal in gymnastics. In 2016, in Rio, Simone Biles became the third Black woman to win team all-around gold medal and second to Black woman to win individual all-around gold medal. Simone Biles completed her 2016 Rio Olympic games with four Gold medals and One Bronze medal in total. Three phenomenal women. Twelve Olympic medals.
